Driving in the Rain

Driving in the rain is a great illustration of how many of us follow God's lead, especially when you have an eye condition that keeps you from seeing well in the dark and especially in the rain.

One day, I was driving in to work and the rain was pretty heavy. I was driving behind a car, using its taillights to help me mark the lanes. The car was driving slower than I wanted to go, so I eventually pulled around him. Unfortunately, there was no other cars in front of the car for quite a distance, and I was left seeing nothing but street lights and an occasional glimmer of a white line to mark the lane.

I would not have been able to see any road hazard if one had been in front of me. There was also a good possibility that I was not maintaining the lane consistently.

This experience made me think about how following God's plan requires patience. He does not work in our timing. Instead of staying in the path that He has set for us, we get anxious and veer off the path towards something that is attractive to us, that we can get to easier or quicker.

Just like what would have happened to my car if there was anything in the road, we are more vulnerable to damaging or blemishing our lives if we veer off God's path and try to go our own way.
