satan offers sins and pleasures for a season. God offers you eternal life.
For those who are truly children of God, this is the worst that life will ever be, and the best life is yet to come. (1 Corinthians 2:9)
Children of God have an inheritance, which is the fully realized and already possessed gift of eternal life.
Peter is writing to believers who are scattered, living as “aliens” in the world. to find joy in an inheritance that is incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away. 1 Peter 1:3-5
You will not get credit for patience through affliction that is a result of sin, but you will receive favor with God when you suffer affliction when you are acting in a righteous manner.
Peter says nothing about you being able to speak things into existence or to do any other work to earn less affliction.
Too much expectation in the present will steal your joy.
When it comes to being disappointed in people, weariness has less to do with what other people do and more to do with your expectations of the other people.
Look for your joy in what is the life to come – “the hope of His calling and the riches of the glory of His inheritance.” Ephesians 1:18
3 dimensions – have been saved by justification, are being saved through sanctification, and one day will be saved through glorification.
As children of God, our goal is to become nearer to the glory of God than before.
What does it mean to go to heaven – limitless holiness, joy, peace; absence of the curse, sin, decay, conflict, pain, sorrow, tears, failure, etc.
In the Old Testament God is known as Creator, Redeemer, and the Father of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob); but now, God is known as the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is the God who is one with the Lord Jesus Christ. The God we worship is the God who is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. You do not worship the true God, if you do not worship the God who is One with Jesus Christ. John 10:29-30
Doctrine of Sovereign Salvation – source of our inheritance is the God and Father our Lord Jesus Christ. It is not the result of our desire, we did not activate it, we did not generate it, we did not make it happen, our salvation came from God according to his rich mercy.
The source of our eternal inheritance is God Himself, His motive was mercy, and our only response is to give glory to Jesus Christ. The means by which God gives us this inheritance is He regenerates the dead soul.
The dead soul is regenerated by the Holy Spirit, through the soul hearing the Gospel. 1 Peter 1:20-23
If all your hope is in this world, it is dying or will die. Our hope comes from eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. The nature of our inheritance is imperishable, undefiled, unpolluted, unstained, and will not fade away (not subject to decay). Matthew 6:19-21
The duration of our inheritance will be forever. 1 Peter 1:4-5
The assurance that we have this inheritance forever (eternal life) is sealed and promised through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Luke 24:46-49
Every time your faith is tested and survives, you know you have a supernatural faith. That is what testing your faith does.
